Were Catholics just called Christians before there were any Protestants?

Catholics have never been "a sect" of Christianity. Catholics and Christianity have always been synonymous since the time of Christ. Only centuries later when some self-centered Christians found it in "their best interest" to protest against the Church in Rome was the term Christian applied to any other than those of the Christian Church in Rome, the ONLY Christian Church, the Roman Catholic Church. God Bless you.
