I don't understand the hatred that modern protestants have for Catholics and Catholicism, do you?

I can understand disagreements but I can't understand why they have to lie about Catholic beliefs. So many times Catholics have explained their devotion to Mary; that Catholics, despite being devoted to her, are not worshiping her. Then Catholics are accused of worshiping the Pope, the statues. Why so much animosity that they have to lie about Catholic beliefs?
